Areas of Expertise
My areas of expertise include Bilingual Education, Dual Language, English as a Second Language, Emergent Bilinguals, Language Acquisition (L1 and L2), Bilingualism and Biculturalism, Newcomers and Migrant Education, Gifted and Talented (GT) Education, Educational Leadership, Educational Policy, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and LGBTQ+.
My life experiences inspired my research interests which focuses on the underrepresentation of Hispanic English learners in gifted and talented education. Additional areas of interest lie within the academic injustice facing the identification of gifted emergent bilinguals, the challenges serving gifted children of color, the ambiguity surrounding twice exceptional students and the neglect and isolation of queer gifted students.
Teaching Philosophy
Con perseverancia, firmeza y arduo trabajo, un estudiante puede derrumbar las barreras impuestas por una sociedad y sistemas educativos injustos y rebasar sus metas llegando al nivel m谩s alto de educaci贸n.
